Little Red Riding Hood Production

A great way to complete our Inquiry about Contributing to Society was our production of Roald Dahl's Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf. 
After weeks of singing practise and rehearsals we were very proud to present our production for a matinee and an evening session.
It was a huge success and everyone was outstanding.  After the initial nerves, the whole cast gave it their BEST and had a thoroughly good time.  CM played the part of the Bat, JK played a squirrel and GT played the part as a reporter.  The remainder of our class performed in the choir which of course sounded spectacular!
We learned how to act, to sing in parts and do actions for an audience.  Everyone helped in some way.  We all learned that a production takes time and effort, but the rewards are very satisfying. 

 

 

We all contributed to society by giving people a great night of entertainment.







...I thought it wasn't so bad at all.  I wasn't that shy at all.  My mum and mu dad and my brother were so proud of me.  TM

...We put on an exciting performance.  I was a little bit shy but when I got use to it I was calm.  I enjoyed the show.  The choir was singing like a couple of birds.  Everything was amazing.  TC

...We sang lots of songs.  It was so amazing to do a production.  I liked it so much it was cool.  LRRH was so pretty she rocked my socks.  It was awesome.  My mum and dad loved it.  MH

...I could not wait, I was that excited, so happy to put a play on for mums, dads, brothers and sisters.  It was so much fun I laughed all night.  CM

Daffodil Day, Friday 26th August 2011

The Cancer Society of New Zealand's Daffodil Day symbolises hope for 1 in 3 New Zealanders affected by cancer.  Children at Botany Downs bought Daffodils for $2.00 and stickers for $1.00 to help support this very worthy cause.  All the money collected will go towards vital scientific research into the causes and treatment of all types of cancer. 
Together with our buddy class, we drew daffodils outside our class.

Maths Week 2011

We've just finished an exciting Maths week.  During the week we attended a World of Maths show in our hall, measured our body to make a body measurement garden, painted Mondrian master pieces, made origami hats, learnt some interesting maths facts and competed against each other in some challenging maths games.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr J's special All Black Jersey.

 

Our caretaker Bob Johnson is very passionate about rugby.  He was proud as punch when he showed us this special All Blacks jersey which he bought recently.  There are only 2011 of these special commemorative All Black jerseys in the world.  Mr Johnson has number 425.  They are a souvenir from the All Blacks versus South Africa game held on 30 July 2011 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

My Mum's Job

Our homework task was to find out more about what our parents do.  JC's mum is a Workplace Safety Co-ordinator at McDonalds.
We were fortunate that Brigitte Crowther could come into our class and talk to us about what this job means and how important it is to always consider safety first.  Mrs Crowther is contributing to society by keeping people safe in the workplace.

The Enchanted Forest

 

We talked about the different jobs we could do to help make our world a better place.  We all agreed that the world would be better with jobs that make people happy like musicians and actors.  We were fortunate to have a theatre company come to our school to perform The Enchanted Forest.  We learnt about the native animals that live in our bush and how to look after the precious treasures of Aotearoa.  Some of us even got to operate the puppets!
